Ducks
In 2017, we were delighted to welcome 6 gorgeous ducklings, to our APPS school community. Our children in Reception enjoyed watching the ducklings hatch, and over time helped to look after these yellow fluffy creatures by learning all about the necessities for the ducks to live a healthy life.
When our six ducks reached the age of 12 weeks, they moved to the front of our school, for the whole of our school community to enjoy. We learnt how to care for them, by building a new enclosure, digging a pool, feeding them daily, collecting their eggs which the ducks started to lay from 14 weeks old, and generally enjoy their unique and individual personalities! Hugo, was the male duck, who spent a great deal of his time, protecting his 'wives', by guarding the perimeter fence!
Sadly, our ducks died in 2019. They were Aylesbury ducks, that are usually bred to provide food, however; we shall remain eternally grateful for this wonderful opportunity to care for such beautiful and wise animals, who helped to support our community wellbeing. THANK YOU Jemima, Camilla, Florence, Hugo, Eggbert and Priscilla for enriching our lives.
