Inspiring a Love for Lifelong Learning
London Sustainability Exchange - Cleaner Air for Schools Project
We enjoyed taking part in the 'Cleaner air for schools' project run by London Sustainability Exchange, whilst engaging with the Surrey Schools' Air Quality programme. During the 'Cleaner air for schools' project, thirty children from year 3 took part in two work shops where they learnt about air pollution, what causes it and the impact on our environment. The project looked at the air quality around our school and the children then placed air testing tubes in and around the school grounds and also outside of the school gates. the tubes remained in place for two weeks and were then removed and sent to the laboratories for analysis.
During workshop 2, the results from our investigation were shared with the children who then created and delivered an assembly to their parents, KS2, staff and governors. The data headlines indicated that we needed to run an 'anti-idling' campaign to further raise awareness of the dangers of pollution especially around our school!
