London Sustainability Exchange / Anti-idling campaign
As part of the Surrey Healthy Surrey programme, our year 3 children who engaged with the 'Cleaner Air for schools' project, continued their quest to improve the air quality in and around school, by taking part in an 'Anti-idling campaign'. This project was run by the 'London Sustainability Exchange'. The children were active participants in an informative workshop, which resulted with the children interviewing the parents / carers who were parked outside of the school grounds at the end of the school day. The parents / carers were provided with informative leaflets and stickers and were asked various questions to seek their opinions about such things as:
Is car idling a problem at our our school and / or wider neighbourhood?
Do you think the main reason people idle is because of lack of parking?
Do you think the main reason people idle, is due to lack of awareness?
If the cars were idling, the parents / carers were advised as to the unecessary polution that they may be causing!
