French Home and Away

Children in Years 5 and 6 experienced a taste of France both at school and in France itself.
One group of children travelled to Northern France to experience life in a French town and visit the wartime locations whilst those back in Ashford were immersed in French through workshops, cooking and other activities.
French Residential Trip
On Tuesday the whole group went to the American Cemetery and one of the D Day Landing Beaches. After lunch at Arromanches, where we saw a mulberry harbour, we walked along the coast to the 360 degree cinema. That evening we had a camp fire with marshmallows and songs. On Wednesday we visited the market town of Fleurs where we shopped in a French market, bought produce for our lunch and then held a competition to prepare the best meal. That afternoon we visited Mayenne and took part in a town trail. Thursday morning saw us visiting the bakery at Ambrieires where everyone enjoyed making croissants before a picnic lunch in ‘the magic tree’. The afternoon saw us using our newly found language skills to carry out interviews with local people in Bagnoles. We had a fantastic and truly memorable time.”
French Experiences at Ashford Park
During the week we did lots of great stuff to do with France.
One day we had a workshop with Jean and Guillome who didn't speak a word of English ALL day. It was really good for us and we learnt a lot.
On the other days we did some cooking, food tasting, singing, played boules, and orienteering - all speaking French of course.
