Inspiring a Love for Lifelong Learning
Spelthorne in Bloom
Ashford Park wins Spelthorne in Bloom award.
We were once again delighted to be invited to the annual Spelthorne in Bloom award ceremony held at Shepperton Studios on 27th October 2014.
Ashford Park won first prize in the "Grow your own" category, receiving praise for the children's active engagement with planting, growing, harvesting and cooking their own delicious food, especially during our lunchtime club opportunities.
Speech made at the award ceremony:
"At this school we were shown around by Pauline Bartlett who has showed huge compassion for the way the children are involved and the variety of vegetables that are being grown. It was explained that the vegetables are planted and maintained by various gardening clubs and then passed onto the cooking clubs so that the children are able to understand their food from the very beginning to the end. They have a lot of upcoming projects that are going to be very beneficial to the children and exciting to see develop. They have a wildlife area that was swarmed with beautiful wild flowers and attracting many species of insects and bugs. The school displays an impressive “bug hotel” and lots of other plants to attract wildlife all of which is maintained by gardening clubs. The school boasts an outside learning area for each individual class."
