Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) Year 4

The Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) is a statutory assessment for our Year 4 children to determine whether they can fluently recall their multiplication tables.

The MTC is focused on the fluent recall of multiplication facts. This is included in the national curriculum (2014) statutory programme of study for mathematics at Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. The national curriculum states, ‘By the end of year 4, pupils should have memorised their multiplication tables up to and including the 12 multiplication table and show precision and fluency in their work’.

The MTC is delivered as an online, on-screen digital assessment and should take each pupil less than 5 minutes to complete.

Please note that the rapid recall of division facts is also integral to the check therefore these also require regular practise.

The MTC will be administered to all eligible year 4 pupils between Monday 3 June and Friday 14 June 2024.

How can I help my child:

Times tables are learnt best when practised regularly and in short bursts. Here at Ashford Park Primary School we use Maths Shed as an online learning resource. You will find your child's login details in the front cover of their reading diaries.
